Because Lilly Dukes balms are made using natural waxes and oils, you may occasionally notice small variations in texture or firmness. This is a very normal characteristic of handcrafted, natural leather care products and does not affect performance or leather protection at all. Our balms soften naturally with the warmth of your fingers, allowing for a smooth, even application that absorbs beautifully into leather.
Leather balm restores moisture and natural oils that leather loses over time. Regular use helps prevent drying, cracking, fading, and stiffness while keeping leather soft, protected, and longer lasting with a satin finish.
Natural leather conditioners can slightly deepen leather tone as they restore moisture and oils. This is normal and often enhances the richness and appearance of real leather. We always recommend testing on a small, hidden area ( on the tongue) of shoe or boot first, especially on lighter or specialty leather.
Most leather benefits from conditioning every month (10 minutes a mont is all it takes). Items exposed to harsh weather, heavy use, or dry climates may benefit from more frequent treatment.
No. Do not use on Nubuck or Suede. Use on smooth or finished leather shoes and boots ONLY. If you are unsure wether or not your shoes can handle a natural balm with oils and waxes...contact the manufacturer or retailer from where you bought your shoes to inquire first before applying. When applied correctly in light, even coats, the balm absorbs into leather and leaves a soft, natural finish without a greasy residue.
A small amount goes a long way. Start with a light application, allow it to absorb, and add more only if needed. Over-application can slow absorption and reduce the natural leather feel.
Lilly Dukes balm helps improve water resistance and protection against moisture, but it is not intended to make leather fully waterproof. It helps leather better resist everyday exposure to rain, snow, and environmental moisture.
Clean the leather surface first. Using a soft cloth or your fingers, apply a small amount of balm using circular motions. Allow the leather to absorb the balm for several minutes, then lightly buff if desired for a soft finish. You do not have to buff but generally we recommend it.
Store your balm at normal room temperature and keep it out of direct sunlight or extreme heat. Because Lilly Dukes uses natural ingredients, texture may firm slightly in cooler temperatures and soften in warmer environments — this is normal and does not affect quality.
